99 international dt 466
I have this ic truck that ive been trying to running for a friend.
It has a Code DTC 626 SPN 254 FMI 8. active unexpected reset fault *M*
I clear it with service maxx, the pro link, and also service assistance.
it comes right back.
when I try to start the truck it will not start. it spins over ICP goes to 985 to 1000psi. check fuel pressure at the filter housing and I have about 45 psi.
but no start. If I give it a shot of starter fluid it run and stay running until you shut it off. Then if you try to restart right after words it wont unless you give it some help.
Im stump with this IC truck. Thanks for your help!!!!

RE: 99 international dt 466
What are RPM's when starting? If RPM's are low spray will increase them and get the motor running. How is starter load?

Also that ICP seems high at start, not that its a bad thing to have good ICP, but are you sure your reading "PSI"

the icp is in psi, I think the rpm gauge is said 300rpm or so
the nexiq will disconnect for a min while trying to start and it reconnects. I don't why it does that?

RE: 99 international dt 466
626 Unexpected Reset Fault is a voltage fault. It can be set by simply dropping voltage too low while cranking. There could also be some bad wiring with high resistance causing a voltage drop to the ECM while cranking. Starter draw could be too high.

ICP pressure while cranking only needs to be 500 PSI to start the engine. Fuel pressure can be as low as 10 PSI to get the engine started. Cranking speed needs to be somewhere around a minimum of 200 rpm. So everything you've said, those parameters are all within engine starting specs.

I would check the grid heater operation if the truck has one.

These older trucks are common for having the NEXIQ disconnect while cranking. Again, it's a voltage drop thing.

No sir is don't have a grid heater.

RE: 99 international dt 466
Like IROC said, everything sounds within tolerance. Check your voltage & ground to ECM during crank. I think your going to find a loose ground to the ECM and the voltage is dropping enough to drop it.

Do you have additional active codes??

So if you immediately try to restart the engine after running it won't start, correct?

That code usually means there is a problem with the power connections to your ECM which could be anything from loose battery connections to bad ECM power relay. That code translates to 626 which is an unexpected reset DTC.

Look at the small power and ground connectors at the battery which go up to the ECM power relay

No other codes.
And that right. You turn it off and try to restart no luck

Hardwire the clean power and grounds in battery box theu arw the weather pack connection and therevis also one 3 wire down by the starter that will get rid of that fault
