VW EDC17CP14 ecu bricked by obd....The solution!
HI everybody,

i want to share my experience with ecu EDC17CP14 bricked by obd.
If you flashed this ecu by obd and had "bad checksum error" or simply an error at the end of programming, regardless of programming tool, you had probably locked your ecu in programming mode.....--> CAR NO START

Boot mode restoring, immo off, eeprom changing...all this will not work!

Don't panic, your ecu is not dead.

The solution is to find same SW original file online in a database (I found mine on ecubit.com) and flash it BY OBD mode in order to exit programming mode. Important, file must be bootmode read file and not partial obd read.

No pb with RSA or OTP area, it will work!

This will restore eeprom and allow car to start again.

I hope this will help because i saw lot of topics with same problem and no real solution.

No bro it's not necessary well I have a friend who flashed an original software fro VW by ODIS and then all of a sudden it's bricked and we tried many tools from the aftermarket but it doesn't work and once the ECU is locked u can't flash it all even by original tool bro so it's not true that if u flash it by original one then it will work cause it's already locked (locked means that you are not allowed to flash it since it's not matched with immobilizer) so once you remove immo and in my friend case the immobilizer was not able to be programmed wither by online function or bypassed because the ECU is damaged all of a sudden then u can flash it other wise u need to bypass it by very expensive tools and ost probably it's not gonna work as per my experience and my friends who faced this issue many times before

That's what I'm telling that once it's locked u can't reflash it and even if it's flashed u need to remove the immo, but if the control unit is bricked then no way at all

ODIS is a solution, it's true but i don't have it.

Here you can solve the problem with same tool which crashed the ecu.

Someone bring me today a Audi A5 3.0 TDI EDC17CP14 ecu for dpf off, some other guy try with volta before and write file back in bootmode with bad checksum.

Car dont start, fans are on, but stil communication with vcds.

Now he came to me and i connect ktag, but no luck, i cant read or write file to the ecu, he even dont see ecu identification.

this is what op posted on another thread , your part2 of this so looks like x17 is the answer

Quote:I problem: ECU VAG EDC17CP04/14 blocked writing MOD by OBD (so called EEPROM crash)
caused by: ECU remain in programming mode.
1. Read IROM / XROM and EEPROM in bootloader mode.
2. Fix IROM/XROM using bootloader readout and OBD ORI readout (you will probably need to paste part of map zone and chk/RSA zone)
3. Write fixed IROM/XROM by bootloader (do not touch EEPROM!)
4. connect ECU to the car and write repaired IROM/XROM (same used for bootloader) by OBD.
It will automaticaly fix eeprom problem.
Resolved

=======================================================================
II problem: ECU VAG EDC17 blocked writing IROM /XROM by bootloader. Cannot read anymore IROM/EEPROM
Caused by: damaged sector 0 by interrupted writing
1. find someone with MAGpro2 X17 or T-BOOT tool
2. Write IROM / XROM by X17/T-BOOT using OPTIONS= ALL
resolved
