Mercedes Benz Re-Programming Attempt of the VGS
Hi Folks, would like to ask for a little help.

Working on a 2009 E350 211.056 car
I was trying to reprogram the Transmission control module in the hopes to solve
my returning fault code " VGS defective ". [first screenshot]
In the process I ran into this hurdle.... [second screenshot]
The transmission has only one forward gear and Reverse. Not getting anywhere fast!

Is there a calculator available to fill in the missing data in the second screenshot ???
Would someone put it up for download.

Thanks a lot for the help, Albert.

when you have this fault code Y38n4 control unit defective, does it not mean ecu needs to be replaced first ??

I'm using XDOS 9_2016 Offline Programming.

I was trying to NOT to buy a new control unit, maybe just reload the software, with the existing parameters that are already stored in this module, that said without SCN.

Is that possible ?

Albert...

RE: Re-Programming Attempt of the VGS
I suspect you will end up replacing the control unit. I just did one. Mercedes supplied a rebuilt unit that was less expensive than I thought it would be. If you do replace the control unit, Xentry will give you a couple of options to program the new unit. You need to let Xentry suck the information out of the old control unit; then, plug in the new unit and program it. Xentry walks you through the procedure. If you just program the replacement control module the transmission will never shift perfect. There will be harsh shifts that will never adapt to satisfaction. If you can't read the defective control unit, Mercedes wants you to replace the entire valve body. Good luck.
