SDNC & Dell D600 nightmare

RE: SDNC & Dell D600 nightmare
So you have been able to hook up to a car and run a short test with DAS standalone? Not launching through Xentry?
Exactly, which means that the serial port is ok.

DAS doesn't really use SDNC unless you are running an SDConnect MUX but Xentry needs it no matter what. => OK.

Also, sometime the MUX has to be powered up (plugged into a car) before SDNC will recognize it and switch over.
MUX connected in car, with USB serial converter SDNC works well and switches over to show D.

Is there anything else plugged into the laptop? USB printers, mice, PCMCIA cards, anything? Try unplugging anything and everything and also undock it if you have it in a dock. Also, you could try changing the serial port settings in Windows to use a different IRQ and memory range. Sometimes there are hidden conflicts with stuff like wireless adapters and touch pads.
Will try this asap. Have already D600 working with USB converter and a D620 with onboard RS232, so I'm not in trouble now. But will try these tips cause I like to know why the onboard RS232 of a D600 is not working together with SDNC.

Also, make sure you are using the Xentry blacklist fix.
You mean the FAMOUS XENTRY BLACKLIST FIX: cal.sli 41kb to be placed in the llist folder? Is done.

Please explain which blacklist fix is required for DAS\bin folder.
I assume that DAS needs its own fix and the Xentry\llist folder fix is not sufficient.

Then there is the off chance that both laptops have bad serial ports.
Nope. As DAS communicates to car over the onboard serial ports.

RE: SDNC & Dell D600 nightmare
Sounds like you got it pretty much covered. You are correct, if you can use the system in DAS then the serial port is OK

If you are connecting to cars in DAS standalone you don't need any DAS/bin blacklist fixes.

Let me know how the serial port settings work... If that is still doesn't work, try doing a "repair" install of SDNC from Start/Programs/Service/Setup SDnetControl.. if it asks, select "Repair" if not just let it do its thing and reboot..

Also, try 115200 Com port speed.. I've had that fix some funny problems sometimes..

IRQ = 03
I/O Range = 02F8-02FF

Which is default for COM2 since old DOS days.
This problem is really very strange.

There is your problem, you need to change the COM port inside the BIOS. You need IRQ 04 with 03F8-03FF, even if the BIOS says that COM1 is IRQ 04 etc... My experience with Dell is that you need to use COM1 in the BIOS...

Thanks for this tip. Will try thi evening.
I cross checked with rhe D620 (which works) and that one has exactly the same settings as the D600. Will post my test result in the evening.

Tried these settings, no joy.
This is the third Dell D600 machine I'm testing. SDNC just DOES NOT detect the MUX. Does not matter how the port is set.

With an USB-RS232 converter: all OK
Installed 2x Dell D620 with onboard RS232: all OK

Think will use the Dell D600 just for other diag progs. Always handy to have some laptops around.

That is really strange, but you may have found a hardware incompatibility that is just no "fixable". I use Dell D630 and Dell D830 for all of my SDS machines. The faster memory bus for the CPU makes them a little faster. Smile
