Also you will need at least System 3.0 memory card, the Genisys requires a custom industrial grade SLC CF card and I have not figured out how to change the identifiers on the memory card to fool it for other brand SLC cards.  The older cards are not large enough for the new software image.

I have been able to do the very same thing.  You can use any 4gb cf card with it.  You just have to know how to do it

Care to share? I've got 5.0 with 2013 software and a CF card reader as well as an old system 3.0 card. I'd love to update this to the best it can be for future use. I've read that is no longer an option because the registration website is gone and have confirmed that with a failed attempt. Checking NGIS tool, it looks like system 5.0.1616.1 was installed and updated for my current 2013 authorized software in Feb of 2016 and believe I just need to unlock the 2015 features without a smart card. Any advice?
