Personalizing 'virgin' R230 ESM

1
I have a virginized (activation removed) R230 shifter that I am trying to install in a different car. When I try to personalize it with DAS, I get communication error 8.700.2006. Doing some searching, it looks like a variant coding problem. The shifter I am trying to install is a non-Keyless Go shifter and the car is Keyless Go equipped, but not functional because it is the '03 card based system and cards are lost. I suspect that might be the issue. From what I understand, the solution might be to zero the variant coding in Vediamo. I have Vediamo V5, but it will not read the k-line based ESM through my C4 SD Connect. Looking for suggestions on the easiest way to get this shifter installed.

1) Install Vediamo V4?
2) Some other device capable of reading k-line with Vediamo V5?
3) Another way to change variant coding or personalize it to a different car?
4) Change coding to non-keyless go in EIS, cluster, ...?

try manually in developer menu. vediamo 4 with part w or 5 with passthru but needs special configuration will work with k line
-Pin for maps Ntg 4.5/5/5.1/5.5
-Comand region conversion
-Remote coding/programming
-fdct drive authorisation fix

What did you used to virginize?? I have used Abrites and after personalization is not possible. Apparently is better to write virgin file using programmer, rather than doing through CAN.

I can resolve it remotely.

It is not related to coding.
-CPC Tuning
-Renewal of FBS3 components by OBD without special tools, data restoration
-AdBlue Remaining Starts Reset/Removal
-NAFTA W906/7 Sprinter Vmax Removal
-FBS4 FDCT ISM Drive Authorization Fix
-Professional MB/BMW/Porsche/Ferrari/Maserati Immo/Coding/Programming

It was virginized with Keymaster Poldiag, on bench (k-line). I am trying to personalize to a parts car I have to test it, but am unable to do that.

I have done a bunch of W220 ESMs with abrites and get the error "cant talk to control module/flash on bench" message everytime, but it works everytime... What are you doing wrong.  :/
According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way that a bee should be able to fly. Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground. The bee, of course, flies anyways. Because bees don't care what humans think is impossible.

Hello,

I have a Mercedes-Benz R230 with the same ESM issue.

I already bought a used ESM module, and someone virginized it for me, but unfortunately it still did not work. I would like to do the process myself this time. I am planning to buy another ESM module, and since I am a CCE engineer, I can handle the technical side, but I am not sure where to start or what the correct procedure should be.

Could you please guide me on the proper steps, tools, and requirements needed to make the ESM work correctly with my vehicle?

You would need to use SimpleDidag with SD03 license and write new data in 2 chips

Hi, thank you very much for your reply and help.
Just to confirm, when you said I need to “write new data in 2 chips,” do you mean this can be done through the SimpleDiag software, or does it require opening the ESM and soldering / removing chips?
Also, do you know if SimpleDiag with SD03 is compatible with the SL500 R230 ESM? My ESM board number starts with A220, so I think the board may be the same or similar to W220.
Do you know where I can buy the original SimpleDiag tool and SD03 license from a trusted seller? I noticed many sellers are Chinese, and I want to avoid fake tools or wrong licenses.

Thank you again for your support.
