You can't use any resistor. And you have to find out the reason why did it burn out.

Think it was overloaded and think there was something wrong with the battery, thought more chance of changing varistor, it does not work so it becomes scrap, no point in spending any time on it. Just need to know what may be the appropriate value of this varistor

Is it placed on the hight voltage side, isn't it?

Use the similar varistor from the PC power supply board for example. Be careful.
