Solved ERROR -1004 - VVDI MB NEC KEY V51/57

SOLVED! PLEASE READ MY LAST POST ON THIS THREAD 

Hi mates, hope all is well

I have a V51 nec key with me that is dead - unrecognised by eis, now I have made a BE/BGA key already and got the vehicle started already but would like to play around a little more and why/how/where the key malfunctioned, prolly corrupt mcu data since I can identify the key by vvdi mb via ir and nec key adaptor but when I try to read key password, it gets stuck at 50% then returns error -1004, and when renew I get error -0001, why does this happen ? is it because I am using the older nec adaptor ? the one with the resistors to remove/add, I don't have the new one that requires no soldering, thanks for any help. 

Hello. I have exactly the same situation with the original nec v51 key. I managed to read the password of the key, with the Nec soldering adapter. After reading the password, the key has the status not used. But when recording, I get the same errors as you. Have you managed to solve this problem? Or was the key faulty?

All honesty, I have not had the chance to look back at this topic, I think the key was bad but not 100% sure as I stated I was using the older NEC adapter needed to solder the NEC chip, hopefully soon I get the newer adapter and try it out, until then do let me know if you fix it or find a way around . . . Cheers, also, sometimes when you read password by NEC adapter, it will become unused status or similar, there was a procedure I'd read somewhere to get it to work again, don't remember what it was

To close this thread with a solid answer, either use the new solder free adapter OR bridge the pads conn 2&3/whatever combination depending on chip type, it worked for me

solution:
adapter for key v51 but, R1 disconnect, R2 connect, R3 connect!
work!!!

I wanted to let others know I had the same issue with a 2006 C230 NEC v51 chip... but it was fixed using a different method. I was able to identify the NEC chip just fine using the green solder-to NEC adaptor by VVDI MB Tool. But when I hit read password, I had the same error as you reported above, error -1004. I tried bridging those connections other people had mentioned, but nothing changed and it still wouldn't read. Once I removed all the bridges, including that resistor that comes with the board on #2... it read the password!

SOLUTION: Try removing all the bridges over #1, #2, and #3. That worked for me to resolve the error code and read the password.
