BMW PASoft versions differences - Badurson - 12-26-2020

Hello,

For some time I’m looking into PASoft, I want learn about this software and get used to it because from what I found out it’s the best program for vin changes different modules and since I like to do retrofits in my and my friends cars it would be convenient to be able to do 100% of work. but I struggle to find clear information about it, a lot of threads on different forums but non of them fully answered my questions.

Versions:

V1.4.0 is version that there is the most info about and from what I understand the biggest difference from other versions is that it works only with older cars like e46, e39 etc.

V2.0.1 difference is that it’s working with cars like e60 and e90, but only them? E46 is no longer supported in this version? Any differences in offered options?

V2.20 version that I know nothing about, just came across it. What cars does it support? Any new features? Or it is only version of adapter not software? What is the difference from v2.0.1

Where can I get adapter to this other than AliExpress? Does software have any official sites?

It’s my first thread, I hope I didn’t break any rule with this. Thanks for help in advance Smile

v1.4.0 is a PASoft, which is extremely handy with older E models, like E46, E39.
You can do the VIN changes, Odometer corecctions, codings, flash reading and writing in most of the modules. So You can clone most of the electronics in those cars.

V2.0 and higher is not really PASoft, it's the clone of BMW Explorer, but it's really easy to find a crappy clone. I have one of those. It can reset the mileage in most of the modules, except the KOMBI, for which You always need to modify the EEPROM. Key programming and CAS exchange tend to fail. I could manage to use it for E65 CAS1 and E60 CAS2 modules, but it was rather risky operation, a lot of different faults, had to do the whole procedures again and again untill it worked. It can read ISN from most ECUs, It did help me with getting ISN number without opening ECUs, so it's not totally useless. Also, not working on older models. It's for the newer architecture, from E60/E65/E90 up. It does codings, fault readings and CBS correction without much problems, but sometimes the system can hang on coding in some modules and You need to restart.

So the main difference is
1.4.0 is for E46 and older. Really usefull, reliable tool, that is not expensive and is doing everything You pay for
2.0 and higer is for next gen models, E60 and up. Most of advanced functions not working, those that work are still risky. Killing some EDC16 is not a big deal, as You can easily replace it, but kill CAS3 or CAS4 and that's where the "fun" begins. If You're thinking about some coding tool, it will work but it's much better to just get the K-DCAN cable and INPA/WinKFP and NCSExpert + ISTA for newer cars. Forget about VIN changing with this chinesse crap. It's too expensive for the functions that work.

Thanks, that clarifies a lot actually, so for older ones I’ll get 1.4.0. But problem is that I have e61 and most cars a get to work on is e60/e90 generation.

I have ICom and I’m familiar with BMW software like ncs, inpa, ista, winkfp. What is the best software for vin/odo corrections in e60/e90?

I know that winkfp is able to change vin but not in all modules. For example I have problem with vin change in combox. What about odometer?
Is BMW Explorer the way to go for that?
I’m more interested in clone because my use is not commercial and I don’t make money out of it, but does vin changing work on clones?

Any other non Chinese crap to know about? 😅
