Problem Description:
  • The Speed Dial position is being read correctly by the Machine ECM.
  • The Speed Dial value changes from 1–10 in Cat ET.
  • However, engine speed does not change according to the dial position during normal operation.
  • The Desired Engine Speed appears to use only the RPM value assigned to Dial 1.
Tests Performed and Results:
  1. Speed Dial Verification
  • Dial positions 1–10 are displayed correctly in Cat ET.
  • The dial input circuit and wiring appear to be functioning properly.
  1. Machine ECM Replacement
  • A different Machine/Hydraulic ECM was installed.
  • The issue remained unchanged.
  1. F889 PWM Circuit Verification
  • The F889 circuit reaches Engine ECM pin J1-66.
  • During diagnostic testing, the Machine ECM generates a PWM signal on F889.
  • When the F889 circuit is disconnected during the test, the engine does not respond to throttle commands.
  • Result: The Engine ECM PWM input circuit and the F889 circuit are functioning correctly.
  1. Diagnostic Test
  • During the manual engine speed test in Cat ET, engine RPM increases as commanded.
  • The F889 PWM signal is present and can be observed with an oscilloscope/multimeter.
  • Result: The Machine ECM PWM output hardware is functioning correctly.
  1. Desired and Actual RPM
  • Desired RPM and Actual RPM track each other correctly.
  • The Engine ECM is properly executing the commanded speed.
  1. AEC (Automatic Engine Control)
  • The AEC switch was disabled/bypassed.
  • The issue remained unchanged.
  1. One Touch Low Idle
  • The One Touch Low Idle circuit was disconnected from the ECM.
  • The issue remained unchanged.
  1. Pressure Switch Checks
  • Travel Pressure Switch
  • Implement Pressure Switch
  • Swing Pressure Switch
All inputs were monitored in Cat ET.
All switches operate correctly and state changes are visible.
  1. Tool Configuration Tests
  • Multiple attachment/tool configurations were tested.
  • The issue remained unchanged.
  1. Speed Dial RPM Mapping Test
    Example:
  • If Dial 1 RPM is set to 1000, the engine runs at 1000 RPM.
  • If Dial 1 RPM is set to 2000, the engine runs at 2000 RPM.
However:
  • When the physical dial is moved to positions 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10, engine speed does not change.
  • The system behaves as if it is using only the RPM value assigned to Dial 1.
  1. ECM Software Verification
  • All ECM flash files/software were updated to the latest available versions.
  • The issue remained unchanged after updating all ECM software.
Important Observations:
  • The Speed Dial position changes correctly in Cat ET.
  • The Machine ECM correctly recognizes the dial input.
  • The Machine ECM is capable of generating the PWM output signal.
  • The Engine ECM correctly responds to the PWM command.
  • However, during normal operation, the dial position does not appear to be indexed into the RPM table.
  • The behavior is consistent with the system continuously using the Dial 1 RPM value regardless of dial position.

I got cat et 2025c and I found a old flash file 2711388 and I tried to program this file but it keeps resetting the rate number, fts fls, and personal moudility numbers and throws a check engine light. 

Could anyone help me in the right direction , I’m not sure if my cat et is too new or the ecm won’t accept the file for some other reason

I got cat et 2025c and I found a old flash file 2711388 and I tried to program this file but it keeps resetting the rate number, fts fls, and personal moudility numbers and throws a check engine light.

I am having a bit of a pickle and I was hoping that you guys would be able to help me out.

I have a pair of MARINE 3196 CAT engines in my Sea Ray 480 Sedan Bridge. I love them and they have been amazing to run, but I am running into an issue with the injector trim codes.

I have just replaced the injectors and everyone at CAT is telling me that I need to put in Trim Codes, or upload Trim Files, to get the engines running right. The issue is that I don't have that option in the CAT ET Software. I was told I might need a newer firmware for the ECU to get that option. CAT wants way too much money for them to look into it, and I already have the ET4 with CAT ET 2023.A so, their price is not right to be honest.

So, I was hoping that you guys would be able to help me out.

I've attached my ECU Report and Config printout files. Need to figure out the rest.

I am having a bit of a pickle and I was hoping that you guys would be able to help me out.

I have a pair of MARINE 3196 CAT engines in my Sea Ray 480 Sedan Bridge. I love them and they have been amazing to run, but I am running into an issue with the injector trim codes.
